PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The goals are to provide meaningful, ongoing professional development (PD) and support for K-12 teachers, which focuses on professional learning practice that increases educator effectiveness and therefore increases student understanding of science phenomenon.

The PD andsupport uses research-basedmethods that mirror those needed in the classroom and are designed to

  • ·        Enhance instructional practices
  • ·        Support inquiry science
  • ·        Build reading and writing skills & strategies set forth by Common Core State Standards for Literacy in Science, & Technical Subjects
  • ·        Prepare teachers for the implementation of the New Arkansas Science Standards
  • ·        Build content and pedagogical content knowledge, skills and practice
  • ·        Facilitatethe development of professional learning communities
  • ·        Support teacher leadership
  • ·        Align with state and district priorities.

1. The First Annual Ouachita Mountains Regional Science & Engineering Fair (OMRSEF) will be held in February 2017 at the Mid-America Museum inHot Springs and is open to high school students (grades 9-12) attending schools in these eleven counties: * Saline * Hot Spring * Garland * Clark * Montgomery * Polk * Pike * Howard * Grant * Dallas * Sevier There will be a town hall meeting for high school teachers and administrators at the Mid America Science Museum in Hot Springs on Monday, September 12, 4:30-6:30 PM. There will be information about the fair and the new Arkansas high school science courses, and REFRESHMENTS!
